List of products by brand Smokey Olive Wood
A brand that produces wood chips and smoke dust. It all began in Andalusia, where the founders were introduced to the delicious taste of meat, fish and vegetables prepared on a barbecue with olive wood during their vacation. After returning home, they wanted to relive the good times, but unfortunately it turned out that olive wood was difficult to come by. So they brought the wood directly from Spain and decided to share the great taste with other barbecue enthusiasts. Olive wood has a distinctive smoky flavor that has been highly appreciated in the Mediterranean region for thousands of years. In Spain, the brand has also found other gems: orange wood, traditional in Valencia, used to prepare paella, almond wood and kebraczo.
Ecological measures
Some of the trees on olive plantations are cut down every year. This is because olives are mostly harvested by machine. These machines use a mechanical arm that shakes the olives from the branches. If the arm can no longer wrap around the trunk or the tree is not shaken enough due to the thickness of the trunk, the tree is removed along with its roots and replaced with a new one. Smokey Olive Wood uses the root wood obtained in this way to produce wood chips and smoking dust, which means that no trees are felled specifically for this purpose. As the brand uses the roots of trees to obtain wood, there is no need to remove the bark, which reduces waste. When cutting pieces of wood, sawdust is produced, which is used to produce smoking dust.
The drying process of the wood initially takes place in the sun, and then in a special oven that is powered by solar panels. These ovens are commonly powered by wood chips, gas or electricity. Smokey Olive Wood only uses a minimal amount of energy to power the pump that circulates the heat from the solar panels. This makes the brand's products more environmentally friendly than identical products from other brands. The production facility is surrounded by olive tree gardens, which significantly reduces transport emissions. The brand offers different sizes of wood chips to suit different appliances and applications, as well as different packaging volumes suitable for different levels of user experience.
Mediterranean flavors
Many beach restaurants in Malaga have a boat filled with sand and burning olive tree roots. These boats function as barbecues and are used for “espetos de sardinas” (grilled sardines). The delicate smoky scent of olive wood goes well not only with fish, but also with chicken, pork, vegetables and even fruit. The demand for other exotic types of smoke has steered the brand towards oak, orange, lemon and almond wood, and walnut. The holm oak provides acorns for the Iberian pig, which give the meat its famous, characteristic flavor. In many good restaurants, oak wood is used because of its hardness and long burning time. The wood smoke gives an exquisite, rustic flavor to grilled and smoked food.
Many almond trees in Spain are uprooted and replaced with other plants, and their wood is then used in the catering industry. Wood smoke has an intense aroma that goes well with beef, game or fish such as mackerel. The wood of the orange tree, traditional in Valencia, is used to prepare paella. The trees are regularly pruned to stimulate growth and the wood is collected and used, which ensures ecological waste treatment. The smoke from this wood gives a delicate, fruity and smoky flavor to dishes and goes well with fish, pork and chicken.
