The Glock FM 81 is a large military knife with a fixed blade, which is perfect for survival and outdoor activities thanks to its durability and functionality.
The FM81 is an improved version of the FM78 knife, with an additional serrated blade on the back of the blade.
The knife has a hidden-tang design, which combines durability, lightness and comfort of use. The narrow clip-point blade is made of spring steel hardened to approx. 55 HRC. The lower retention (ability to retain sharpness) is perfectly compensated by the ease of sharpening, thanks to which the blade can be sharpened in the field using a regular pocket sharpener. The entire surface of the blade is coated with a phosphate layer that protects against corrosion and prevents light reflection. On the upper part of the blade, there is a false edge to increase penetration and a saw with alternating teeth that are perfect for cutting wood, bone, rope, and plastic.
The handle is made of the same polymer that the Austrian company uses to produce the frames of Glock combat pistols. The polymer is shock-absorbent and non-slip, which, in combination with the contoured shape of the handle, ensures a comfortable and secure grip. There is an opening at the back of the handle through which a safety cord can be threaded. The knife has a forged steel guard on both sides to protect the hand from sliding onto the blade. In addition, the angled part of the guard can be used as a bottle opener or a thumb rest when carving.
A simple polymer sheath is used to carry the knife, with a versatile mounting system that allows the knife to be attached to a belt (using a belt loop), a vest and equipment. A simple spring lock secures the knife when inserted into the sheath and allows for quick removal. The lock is located in such a way that when the handle is gripped, the safety device is automatically deactivated. One of the biggest advantages of the sheath is that the blade can be inserted in both directions, which makes it more convenient for both right- and left-handed people. An additional feature of the sheath is the hole for the cord and the drainage hole for water drainage.
