The Benchmade 391SBK SOCP is a large tactical folder designed for uniformed services and people looking for a reliable EDC tool.
The knife was designed by Greg Thompson, creator of the S.O.C.P., a combat system used by US Army special forces.
The slim blade with a symmetrical spear-point profile is coated with black Teflon, which protects against corrosion and minor scratches and emphasizes the tactical character of the knife. To increase the functionality of the knife, the rear part of the cutting edge is serrated.
The combo blade is particularly suitable for cutting tough and fibrous materials such as belts, ropes and tapes.
Thanks to the strong tang, the very gentle curvature of the edge and the flat grind, the blade cuts very smoothly and efficiently and does not tend to get stuck in the material.
The thickness of the blade at its widest point is 3 mm, which is a compromise between the durability and functionality of the knife in everyday work.
The 113 mm long blade is made of hard and durable D2 tool steel hardened to 60-62 HRC. D2 is the most corrosion-resistant carbon steel, which is characterized by high abrasion resistance, long-lasting sharpness and aggressive cutting.
When choosing a knife made of this steel, it is worth getting a diamond sharpener, because sharpening with a standard ceramic whetstone can be very laborious and inefficient.
To unfold the blade, use the symmetrical disk on the spine of the blade, which allows both right- and left-handed people to use the knife. The size of the disk and its convenient location make it possible to unfold the blade while wearing gloves.
The knife is equipped with Benchmade's flagship locking mechanism, the Axis-lock, valued for its high resistance to dynamic loads, insensitivity to dirt and ease of use. The durability and rigidity of the knife's construction are ensured by full steel liners of increased thickness.
The knife has profiled linings made of CF-Elite (carbon fiber reinforced nylon), which is much lighter and stiffer than, for example, G10 laminate. The finger groove and deep milling on the linings ensure a firm grip on the knife and effectively emphasize its tactical character.
A high-mounted clip with the option of switching to the other side allows for discreet carrying of the knife in a pocket.
