A classic and extremely light model from the French company Opinel, which has been producing knives for over 100 years. The thin blade with a flat grind is made of carbon steel, which is characterized by its ease of sharpening and long sharpness retention. Since carbon steel requires a bit more care, it should be dried thoroughly and rubbed with oil after each use. Following this simple tip will protect the blade from rust.
The knife has a small blade made of hard high-carbon steel XC90. Thanks to the high carbon content (up to 0.90%), the XC90 steel blade is resistant to mechanical damage, remains sharp for a long time and cuts much more aggressively than stainless steel. However, it should be remembered that carbon steel is susceptible to corrosion and therefore requires regular and proper maintenance. After each use, the blade should be thoroughly cleaned, dried and protected with linseed/camelina oil or synthetic knife grease. As with other Opinel models, a fingernail notch is provided to fold out the blade.
The beech wood handle is perfectly shaped and ensures a secure and comfortable grip. The blade is locked with a rotating ring, patented in 1955 under the name Virobloc.
This knife is an excellent choice for people who value tradition, functionality and simplicity. It is a perfect idea for an inexpensive, original gift.
